The banyan ficus is an excellent selection for beginning bonsai enthusiasts and collectors alike. They are generally easy to care for, grow relatively quickly, are tolerant of most soil and light conditions, and are fairly forgiving regarding watering techniques. Most Ficus will grow "banyan" roots naturally.
